First of all I want to thank everyone that came to the grand opening last Saturday-what a great day it was! Everyone that I had a chance to talk to seemed genuinely excited about the store. I have spent the last couple of days reordering teas and air plants- all of the air plants are gone!
Secondly, seems like everyone in my family has been sick in the last few weeks-my daughter, grandchildren, and both of my sons. A lot of coughing and sore throats-yikes! Trying hard to not get it myself! Last night I made a batch of Elderberry Syrup-pretty easy since I carry both the Elderberries and the honey needed for the recipe. Here's how I do it:
Step 1: In a saucepan cover 2 ounces of dried black elderberries with 1 quart of water. Boil. Turn heat down to low and simmer until reduced to a pint. Strain.
Step 2: Return liquid to the pan. Use a wooden spoon to stir in 1 1/2 cups of honey until thoroughly dissolved.
Step 3: Let the syrup cool to room temperature. Pour into a clean jar, label and date. It will keep in the refrigerator up to a year.
I plan to take a few teaspoons today when I think about it and probably put a little into my water bottle to sip on the rest of the time. It's really pretty tasty! Enjoy!
